I offer a down to earth approach to psychotherapy. Life can move quickly and one can find themselves in situations without much time for self reflection. Our time together can provide a safe place for you to slow down and gain understanding. Together, we can work on building skills to help increase your enjoyment in life. I help individuals understand their chemical use, relationship, anxiety, depression and childhood issues. I have seen that through the therapeutic relationship you can gain a deeper understanding of yourself and your patterns, And from there you can experience a new way of living. I believe life moves us towards healing and acceptance and that as social beings we need the help of others to move through this journey. Therapy can be a great place to check in and reflect on events while seeing patterns or ideas that keep us from life’s enjoyment.

  • Susan Cook, therapist at Franklin Family Services
    Susan Cook LICSW
Licensed Therapist in St. Louis Park, MN

I have been a licensed therapist since 1999. I have specialized in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) my whole career. Marsha Linehan, who created the program, discovered that her clients did much better after she introduced mindfulness practices she learned while spending time in Buddhist monasteries. This is what attracted me to the DBT program. I have studied Buddhist philosophy for several years. Though I am not a practicing Buddhist, I do meditate daily and use the DBT skills in my own life daily. I also practice non-judgment with everyone, no matter what. Currently, I am working only with adults (18 - 100) individually. I treat mood disorders, trauma, adjustment disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Bipolar, anxiety, and I particularly love working with people with ADHD.
